This retreat is designed for ordained clergy, lay leaders, and people discerning their future in ministry.

Schedule: arriving by 6 p.m. Monday, August 5, departing after 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 8.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Engage! Worship Retreat

You are cordially invited to an immersive experience that will empower and equip you to lead creative worship and events that appeal to people with a variety of learning styles and faith traditions/stances. The goal is for people to say “I never want to miss an event at (name of organization)!” 

This retreat is designed for ordained clergy, lay leaders, and people discerning their future in ministry. 

Bring your questions, curiosity, ideas, success stories, energy, enthusiasm, creativity, and willingness to try out innovative ideas in twice-daily worship. 

What will you take away from this time? 

  • An eight-week worship planning overview for a season or series of events of your choice 
  • One fully developed sermon or message 
  • An approach to scripture reading in worship that plays to your strengths and reflects your faith tradition/stance 
  • Progress on sermon/message delivery in areas you identify 
  • An understanding of best practices in hybrid worship 
  • A group of colleagues who continue to encourage one another

Shannon Wall, M.Div., MFA 

Shannon is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ. She earned an M.Div. degree from Yale Divinity School, where she won awards in preaching and scripture reading for worship. She also taught sermon delivery for the Introduction to Preaching course led by Thomas Troeger and Nora Tubbs Tisdale, and scripture reading for worship for Marquand Chapel ministers and YDS students. Shannon has an MFA degree from New York University’s Graduate Acting Program; she was a professional actress for ten years.  

She has served and grown congregations in Connecticut as a senior pastor, solo pastor, interim minister, worship leader, and associate minister over the past fifteen years. Rev. Wall performed The Gospel of Mark from memory at more than twenty venues from 2017—2019. 

Recently, Shannon has presented and facilitated discussions on revising bylaws for Bricks and Mortals and the Southern New England Conference of the United Church of Christ in their Lunch and Learn and Super Saturday events. She facilitates a peer-to-peer learning cohort on policy development for the Omaha Presbyterian Seminary Foundation’s Pastoral Leadership Revitalization effort and serves as a coach to pastors in that program as well as to people from all walks of life who want a thought partner to help them identify and achieve exciting goals.  

 

 

Claire Bamberg, D. Min., LMFT, PCC 

An ordained minister, licensed mental health professional, certified mediator, professional certified coach (PCC, ICF (International Coaching Federation)), a systems and developmental theory expert, and consultant, Claire has worked with businesses, congregations, corporate structures, and individuals, internationally and domestically. Whether supporting a structural reorganization, teaching pastoral skills in a seminary, serving as the Executive Director of a nonprofit, or providing professional coaching support to executives, pastors, groups and teams, Claire loves facilitating growth and change towards new awareness, innovation, new beginnings, and leadership development. Her work focuses on congregational consolidations, vitality initiatives, conflict transformation, structural and strategic planning, and training the next generation of skilled professional coaches.
